Located in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Valley, Mt. Yunam is a rare gem among six-thousanders, straddling the border between Ladakh and HP. Accessible after crossing the challenging Baralacha La pass on the Leh-Manali highway, the base camp at Bharatpur sits at a lofty altitude of 4,600 m, surrounded by rugged, vegetation-scarce mountains. Mt. Yunam offers a non-technical ascent. Reaching the summit, Mt Yunam at 6115 m offers a breathtaking view of Ladakh’s picturesque valleys and on the Himachal side you will be treated with the stunning beauty of the towering peaks of the Chandrabhaga group, Mulkila group, and Koarang group. However, trekkers must contend with frostbitten winds, treacherous scree-covered terrain, and the demanding pace necessitated by rapid altitude gain, underlining the importance of a thorough acclimatization process before attempting the summit. Additionally, novice mountaineers seeking to familiarize themselves with high-altitude conditions will find Mt. Yunam an excellent starting point.
